The New York Mets most famous minor leaguer may have a new home soon. According to reports, the team is considering promoting Tim Tebow to AA.

When the New York Mets signed Tim Tebow to a minor league contract, the move was met with a great deal of skepticism. He had not played baseball since high school, and while he showed decent power potential in his tryouts, he did not seem to be far beyond the skill of a high school player. Nonetheless, the Mets gave Tebow a contract, and sent him to the Arizona Fall League.

There, the questions grew louder. He struggled throughout most of his stay in Scottsdale, producing a .194/.296/.242 batting line, with just three doubles as his extra base hits. Tebow looked completely overmatched, and his signing was further ridiculed as a way for the Mets to get publicity and sell shirts.

In typical Tebow fashion, he worked on his craft all offseason. The results were evident when he showed up to Spring Training, as he looked more like a baseball player than an athlete trying to play baseball. Assigned to the Columbia Fireflies of the South Atlantic League, Tebow homered in his first at bat. While he endured an extended slump, Tebow has been solid over the past two weeks, moving his batting line up to .250/.330/.370 heading into today.

That production, especially as of late, has caught the attention of the Mets front office. While nothing is eminent, discussions have begun about promoting Tebow up the minor league ladder. Such a move, if it was to happen, likely would not occur until around the All Star Break.

Considering how things looked for Tebow’s career before this season, just the fact that the Mets are thinking about a promotion is a bit of a surprise. However, given his .849 OPS in his past 16 games, Tebow may well deserve such a move. Understandably, the Mets are being cautious, and allowing him to have more time in Columbia before any promotion happens, but these discussions certainly bode well for his future.
