The Boston Red Sox trade deadline moves will focus on plugging in a few holes. Do they have the resources and minor league talent to fill them all?

Unlike last season and many before, the Red Sox offense has not been its strong suit. The team is near the bottom of MLB in home runs, relying on timely hits to help out the starting pitchers. Regular elite starts from ace Chris Sale has also kept them afloat in their bad streaks this year while David Price and Rick Porcello struggle.

The Red Sox are far from perfect. Other than the trustworthy bullpen, Boston needs to get very busy before July is through.

Todd Frazier trade bolsters the team’s power numbers

There is no better fit for Chicago White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier than the Red Sox. They desperately need a third base upgrade over Pablo Sandoval and the gang. Frazier would fit this need while also bringing with him some great power. With not many other teams out there searching for help at the hot corner, it seems all but certain Frazier ends up with the Red Sox.

Frazier is certainly not the best third baseman on the trade market. However, he’s the great mix of available and obtainable. The White Sox cannot sell Frazier high. Unlike the Toronto Blue Jays who would certainly hold other teams hostage in their pursuit of Josh Donaldson, Frazier will likely cost far less.

If not Frazier, Boston is likely going to target Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas. Unfortunately, he’ll end up with the New York Yankees after they outbid the Red Sox with their deeper farm system.
