New York Yankees: Gleyber Torres owns the Baltimore Orioles

In theory, Peter Angelos is the owner of the Baltimore Orioles. In reality, the Orioles are owned by New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres.

There are some players that just destroy a specific team. Every fanbase has that player where, when they step to the plate or head to the mound, they know that nothing positive will happen. For the Baltimore Orioles, that is the case when New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres steps to the plate.

Torres has played 12 games against the Orioles this season. He has hit ten of his 12 homers this year against Baltimore, including three multi-homer games. In fact, before Thursday’s contest, New York has had a multi-homer game during each meeting in Baltimore.

Those are not the only multi-homer games that Torres has against Baltimore. He also hit two home runs in the Yankees 5-3 victory over Baltimore in New York on May 15. Yes, he had three multi-homer games against the Orioles in a one week span.

Amazingly, Torres did not need to be in the starting lineup to victimize Baltimore. On Thursday, he was given the day off, despite his incredible hot streak against the Orioles. And yet, he proved to be a key part of the Yankees game winning rally.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, Torres was summoned as a pinch hitter for Thiaro Estrada. He drew a walk, which naturally ignited the Yankees offense. After a single and another walk, Aaron Hicks drew a bases loaded walk, forcing Torres home with the game winning run. Because, naturally, it would be Torres who would score to snap the tie.

Fortunately if one is an Orioles fan, there are only seven games left against the Yankees this season. Their next meeting does not come until August 5, and those seven games will all be over by the end of the day on August 14, pending any rainouts. At least Torres will not be able to victimize the Orioles again for another two and a half months.

One could forgive the Baltimore Orioles if they have nightmares involving Gleyber Torres. At this point, the New York Yankees infielder owns them.
