3 potential landing spots for New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo
New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo is going to get paid this offseason.
He is in an interesting spot in free agency. Several teams need a center fielder. The problem is that there are not going to be many every day options available at the position in the open market. With the likes of Kevin Kiermaier and Odubel Herrera as the possible second and third options, Nimmo is going to be a very attractive piece during the offseason.

That payday could also limit Nimmo’s options. There are teams such as the Marlins and Guardians that could use help in center, but neither team will spend the money necessary to bring him on board. Of course, Nimmo will have plenty of other options, but his potential market is a bit limited due to financial concerns.
Where will New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo end up in free agency? Let’s look at three possible landing spots.
New York Mets
It is entirely possible that Nimmo does not go anywhere.
He had stated that he would be “definitely interested” in returning to the New York Mets following their Game Three loss on Sunday. Of course, what else was he supposed to say at that moment – that he wanted no part of returning to Queens and remove a suitor from the ranks?
Nimmo would not even necessarily need a long term deal. The Mets could extend the Qualifying Offer, a significant increase over the $7 million he received this season. It would be the perfect bridge contract to either work out an extension to stay in New York for the long term or to get a large payday before entering free agency.
He is also a significant piece to their batting order. Nimmo was the Mets’ primary leadoff hitter, getting on base and setting the table for a dangerous middle of the lineup. While the Mets do have other players that could potentially slide into that role, Nimmo is a perfect fit for their lineup. Replacing him would be easier said than done.
Brandon Nimmo is open to staying with the New York Mets. They might need him more than any other team.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies have started to branch out from just keeping their own players and bringing back those that left in free agency.
That began during the 2021-22 offseason when they emerged as the surprising victors in the Kris Bryant Sweepstakes. However, that turned sour when Bryant was injured for most of the year, leaving him as one of the few players in Rockies history with at least 100 plate appearances in Coors Field without hitting a home run.
Even a healthy Bryant will not solve all the Rockies’ outfield woes. Sam Hilliard cannot hit his way out of a wet paper sack. Yonathan Daza has yet to see a pitch he won’t swing at. Randal Grichuk is extremely inconsistent. Connor Joe may have been a nice story, but he is a fourth outfielder at best. The Rockies need a center fielder and another bat in the lineup.
Brandon Nimmo would solve both of those problems. Although the New York Mets outfielder would not be the only piece the Rockies need, he would be a perfect fit atop their lineup while his excellent defense is sorely needed in Colorado. It would also be a bit of a homecoming as Nimmo grew up in Wyoming.
The Rockies desperately need help in the outfield. Brandon Nimmo would be a step in the right direction.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants are planning on spending big this offseason in an attempt to return to the playoffs.
Naturally, they have their sights set on two of the top free agents in baseball. According to reports, Aaron Judge and Trea Turner are atop their wishlist, two players that would certainly help boost a middling lineup. Both the outfield and middle infield were sore spots for the Giants last season, making Judge and Turner logical targets.
It is a good plan in theory. Yet, while the Giants are looking to make a splash, other options make sense as well. Brandon Nimmo is one of those players that would be a solid Plan B in the event that they are unable to lure Judge to the Bay Area.
He would also solve several issues. Mike Yastrzemski was the Giants’ primary center fielder last year, hardly the ideal defensive situation. The Giants also used ten different players in the leadoff spot last season, with six players getting at least ten starts atop the batting order. Nimmo would change all of that, taking over as the Giants’ leadoff man while providing a solid all around bat in the outfield.
The Giants have big plans for the offseason. If those plans fall through, New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo would be a perfect consolation prize.
