3 reasons not to overreact to Philadelphia Phillies slow start
By Nick Halden
1. The 2022 season
With the way the 2022 season ended for the Phillies, it is easy to forget just how dead this team was thought to be in April and May of 2022. The Phillies went 11-11 to start the first month of the season and followed it up with a dismal 10-18 May record.
Two things can be true. All games count the same while Philly fans can also take solace in the fact that the team has been in a far worse position and no races are decided in April. The Phillies started slowly in 2022 with arguably a worse roster and finished in a far better position.
There isn’t any getting around the fact that this has been far from an ideal start for the Phillies. However, with a long season ahead of them and a very talented roster, it is an overreaction to judge this Philly team just yet.
The NL East has an argument as the best division in the league and the Phillies still have every reason to believe they can contend with the Mets and Braves long-term, especially when adding back a player who completely changes this lineup.
