The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated veteran right hander Russ Ortiz for assignment. It is likely that the Dodgers will bring up Jon Link, whom they acquired in the Juan Pierre trade, for the short term. But it is expected that Link will not stay long in the majors, as Hong Chih Kuo and Ronald Belisario are both expected to be activated off the DL later this week.

So far in six games this season, Ortiz has not looked good, as he has allowed 8 runs on 10 hits and 5 walks all while in 7 innings pitched. Last year, Ortiz appeared in 23 games with the Astros before being released, he posted a record of 3-6 with a 5.57 ERA.

Ortiz, who has suffered his fair share of elbow injuries in the past few years, has not been effective as major leaguer since 2004, when he was member of the Atlanta Braves. Their he had a record of 15-9 while posting an ERA of 4.13. At the age of 35, it maybe hard for Ortiz to find a job with another team.
