Roster Moves (6/1): Ryan Kalish to AAA, Dana Eveland to Pittsburgh

I’m three days behind on these daily reports and will do my best to catch back up as quickly as I can.  It has become apparent to me that from time to time things are going to delay these reports.  This week it was the near perfect game by Armando Galarraga coupled with having to spend yesterday at home with our youngest boy who was a bit under the weather and a mountain of work piling up at my “day job.”  So goes life I suppose.

(Recap of the moves after the jump)

Trade:

The Pittsburgh Pirates traded RHP-Ronald Uviedo (23) to the Toronto Blue Jays to secure the services of LHP-Dana Eveland (26) who was designated for assignment by the Jays on May 24th.  Uviedo was having a fine season in his first taste of Double-A action for the Pirates but remains, at best, a fringe prospect.

AL Central:

2B/SS-Alexei Casilla (25) who is dealing with bone spurs in his elbow, has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Minnesota Twins.  Surgery is a possibility.  2B-Matt Tolbert (28) was called up from Rochester to take his place.

The Chicago White Sox placed 3B-Mark Teahen (28) on the 15-day DL with a fractured finger.  The move was made retroactive to May 30th.  In a related move, the team recalled 2B-Brent Lillibridge (26) from Charlotte to take his place.

AL East:

OF-Ryan Kalish (22) got promoted from Portland (AA) to Pawtucket (AAA).  Kalish entered the season as the #5 prospect in the Boston Red Sox system and was hitting 0.293/.404/.527 with 8 HR, 13 SB, 28 BB and 21 SO in 183 at the time of his promotion.

AL West:

The Seattle Mariners designated RHP-Jesus Colome (32) and Rule 5 draft pick RHP-Kanekoa Texeira (24) for assignment.  To take their spots on the roster, the M’s called up RHP-Sean White (29) and LHP-Garrett Olson (26) from Tacoma.  Of the four players involved in the moves, the designation of Texeira raised a few eyebrows and elicited reaction from SoDo Mojo’s own, Brett Miller. Seattle wasn’t done there however.  They also outrighted 3B-Jack Hannahan (30) to Tacoma after he cleared waivers.

NL Central:

The Milwaukee Brewers optioned RHP-Marco Estrada (26) to Nashville and also designated OF-Adam Stern (30) for assignment. They also promoted RHP-Kameron Loe (28) from Nashville.

The Houston Astros placed RHP-Chris Sampson (32) on the 15-day DL due to bicep tendinitis and designated RHP-Evan Englebrook (28) for assignment.  They then called up RHP-Casey Daigle (29) from Round Rock.
