Keeping it brief today, but at least this addition of Roster Moves is being published on its intended day.
(moves after the jump)
Optioned to Las Vegas on Sunday, 3B-Edwin Encarnacion (27) was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. The team does not believe he will be claimed off of waivers, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a team takes a chance here. Yes he is 27-years old and yes he is making $2.7 million this season, but there is pop in the bat and ability still untapped. Never a great defensive player at the hot corner, his -2.6 UZR/150 is the best of his 6-year major league career and a vast improvement over his -12.4 career mark. A team looking for a stopgap at 3B for 2010 and maybe a few years beyond could do far worse than Encarnacion, and he could always give it a go in outfield as well.
In other Jays news, RHP-Scott Richmond (30) was activated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Dunedin (A).
LHP-John Lannan (25) was optioned by the Washington Nationals to Syracuse. RHP-Joel Peralta (34) was called up to take his place on the roster. RHP-Garrett Mock (27) was moved from the 15-day to 60-day DL. Finally, LHP-Ross Detwiler (24) was activated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Harrisburg (AA).
The New York Mets optioned RHP-Jenrry Mejia (20) to Binghamton (AA) so he can transition back to the starting rotation. RHP-Bobby Parnell (25) was called up from Buffalo to take his place. Brandon Butler had some thoughts on these moves over at Rising Apple yesterday.
