June 25th will be forever remembered by 6 players.  One was traded from Toronto to San Diego, one signed his first professional contract, one made his major league debut, one was suspended for drugs, another was suspended for a temper tantrum and a top prospect was promoted to Triple-A.

(moves after the jump)

Trade Time:

The Toronto Blue Jays traded C-Kyle Phillips (26) to the San Diego Padres.  In exchange the Jays will receive a player to be named later.  Phillips was the Minnesota Twins 10th round pick in the 2002 draft and made his major league debut last season with Toronto. In 9 minor league seasons he has hit 0.265/.333/.381 with 54 home runs.

AL Central:

The Cleveland Indians called up LHP-Aaron Laffey (25) from Columbus.  He got the start last night and needed 86 pitches to get through 4.0 innings.  He gave up 5 hits, 5 earned runs, 3 walks, 1 home run and struck out 5.

The Kansas City Royals signed their 1st round draft pick, SS-Christian Colon (21), to a contract with a $2.75 million bonus.  I’m not the biggest fan of the pick, but the fact that he signed quickly is encouraging.  At least he will get some professional experience under his belt this season.  That’s a nice change of pace for Royals 1st round picks.

The Detroit Tigers called up LHP-Andy Oliver (22) from Erie and optioned RHP-Jay Sborz (25) to Toledo.  Oliver went on to make his major league debut and pitched well.  He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk in 6.0 innings of work while striking out 4.  Of his 97 pitches thrown, 59 of them went for strikes.

AL East:

The Boston Red Sox called up LHP-Fabio Castro (25) and optioned OF-Josh Reddick (23) to Pawtucket.

AL West:

The Seattle Mariners placed RHP-Shawn Kelley (26) on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation and activated RHP-Doug Fister (26).  They also activated C-Adam Moore (26) from the 15-day DL and optioned him to Tacoma.

NL Central:

The Chicago Cubs designated 3B-Chad Tracy (30) for assignment and activated 3B-Aramis Ramirez (32) from the 15-day disabled list. They also suspended RHP-Carlos Zambrano (29) indefinitely after his irrational “outburst.”

The St. Louis Cardinals called up RHP-Adam Ottavino (24) and optioned Noel Fernando Salas (25) to Memphis.

NL East:

It’s time to get excited.  The Philadelphia Phillies have promoted top-prospect OF-Domonic Brown (22) from Reading to Lehigh Valley. The Phillies’ 20th round pick in the 2006 draft was having an excellent season in Double-A this year.  His line at the time of his promotion was 0.318/.391/.602 with 15 HR and 12 SB in 271 PA.  That came on the heels of his 2009 line of 0.299/.377/.504 with 14 HR and 23 SB in 454 PA which he turned in between Clearwater (A+) and Reading.  Brown is one of the prospects I am most looking forward to reaching the majors so this move is a great bit of news in my world.

The Florida Marlins designated LHP-James Houser (25) for assignment and called up RHP-Jose Veras (29) from New Orleans.

NL West:

Los Angeles Dodgers prospect OF-Andrew Lambo (21) has completed his 50-game suspension and will resume his 2010 season with the Chattanooga Lookouts in Double-A.  He was suspended after testing positive for a drug of abuse.  In related news, Dodgers Triple-A outfielder Prentice Redman (30) was suspended 50 games after he tested positive for amphetamines.  The team also designated RHP-Charlie Haeger (26) for assignment and called up RHP-Jon Link (26) from Albuquerque.

The San Diego Padres activated SS-Everth Cabrera (23) from the 15-day disabled list.
