Sandoval Nearing Return

Though much of the talk surrounding the Giants has been about the Posey-Cousins incident, there is a bit of positive injury related news to pass on involving the club.

Third baseman Pablo Sandoval is set to begin his rehab assignments Friday night with San Francisco’s single A squad.

After last night’s victory San Francisco currently sits atop the National League West.  Much of their success this season can be attributed to their pitching staff and specifically its starters.  Everyone in the current 5 man rotation is sporting an ERA under 4 and three of the 5 are at 3.50 or lower.

Offensively, the Giants are on the other end of the spectrum.  Even after their 12 run outburst Thursday night, San Francisco still only ranks 25th in the league with 206 runs scored on the year.

Other than Brandon Crawford, who’s only played in 7 games this year, no San Fran batters have maintained an OPS over .800.

If he were to return today, Sandoval’s batting average, OBP and slugging would all lead the team.

After a two game stint with Class A San Jose, Sandoval will play a few more games with the Giants AAA club and then look to rejoin the big league squad.
