Former MVP Albert Pujols was removed from today’s game against the Kansas City Royals after spraining his wrist.

The injury occurred in the top of the 6th when Pujols attempted to catch a throw that was off line from second baseman Pete Kozma.  The first baseman collided with Wilson Betemit who was hustling down the line to beat the throw.

Prior to his exit, Pujols was having a huge day at the plate.  The slugger was 3-3 with a home run.

The team is hoping to evaluate Pujols more after today’s game and into Monday.  St. Louis just recently got slugger Matt Holliday back from the disabled list and would hate to lose another big bat for an extended period of time.

After a slow April and mediocre May, Pujols has broken out in June.  He’s hit 7 home runs and 5 doubles for a 1.111 OPS in this month.  This strong showing has caused his numbers to rise to .279/.355/.500 on the year.
