Indians Choo Breaks Thumb

“He’s going to be out for a while.”

That’s all Indians’ manager Manny Acta could say last night regarding his right fielder, Shin-Soo Choo.

In the fourth inning of last night’s contest against the San Francisco Giants the 28 year old broke his thumb when he was hit by a Jonathan Sanchez pitch.  Choo’s been placed on the team’s 15 day disabled list, but is sure to miss more than the required two weeks.

Choo has fallen far below his career marks in what has been a difficult 2011.  On the field, Choo has only been able to put up a line of .244/.333/.353.  Off the field, the South Korea native was charged with DUI after police noticed his car swerving back and forth across the road the morning of May 2nd.

Unfortunately for the Indians, it looked like Choo was finally finding himself at the plate before Friday’s injury.  Over his last 9 games Choo was 10 for 28 with 5 RBIs and 7 walks.

The Tribe will recall outfielder Travis Buck from Triple-A to take Choo’s roster spot.  In 32 games with the Indians this season, Buck has only managed an OPS of .624 while playing all three outfield positions.
