Rangers Andrus Sprains Wrist

The Texas Rangers could be without Elvis Andrus for some time after the short stop sprained his wrist Friday night.  The team is listing him as day-to-day, as it is still determining the severity of Andrus’s injury.

The 22 year old sustained the injury in the 4th inning of last night’s contest against the New York Mets.  Andrus came to the plate that inning and drove in a run with a 2 out single before swiping second base.

But Andrus’s 22nd steal of the season proved costly as the short stop sprained his wrist, landing awkwardly during his head first slide into the bag.  He was replaced by Andres Blanco.

Texas would not only miss Andrus’s slick fielding at short, but also his bat that’s been warming with the weather.  Andrus has gotten better at the plate each month, pulling his average from .250 in April to .267 in May.

After last night’s 2-2 effort the short stop is currently sporting a line of .278/.337/.349.  While those aren’t necessarily wow numbers, Andrus has been able to score 45 runs and has driven in another 30.  I’ve also already mentioned the terror that he can be on the base paths for opposing pitchers.
