Jason Kubel Faces Rehab Setback

Minnesota has announced that outfielder Jason Kubel experienced an injury setback and will remain on his rehab assignment longer than originally expected.

Kubel felt discomfort in the same foot that sent him to the disabled list while playing for the Twins Single-A club Thursday.  He turned to chase a batted ball and noticed the pain in the third inning of the contest.

The 29 year old will remain with Minnesota’s Single-A affiliate for the time being and be used as the team’s designated hitter.

"“Until he’s comfortable and DH-ing down in Florida, he will stay down there,” Twins trainer Rick McWane said Friday. “We won’t send him to Rochester until he’s ready to play.”"

Minnesota can’t simply stash Kubel as their DH to get his bat back in the lineup faster.  With their plethora of injuries, the team needs Kubel to play the field.  Until he can prove able to do so in the minors, he will remain on rehab assignment.

The outfielder will cause a domino effect of sorts for the Twins.  His return will allow current outfielder Michael Cuddyer to move back to first and replace the light-hitting Luke Hughes.
