Hanley Ramirez Day-to-Day with Sprained Shoulder

The Florida Marlins are expected to be without their star shortstop Hanley Ramirez Wednesday.  Ramirez is being listed as day-to-day by the club after spraining his left shoulder during last night’s game against the Mets.

Ramirez sustained the injury in the bottom of the 6th inning when he attempted to make an over-the-shoulder grab in shallow left field.  The 27 year old remained down, writhing in pain, until trainers joined him and helped him to his feet.

The shoulder has given Ramirez problems in the past, as it required arthroscopic surgery after the 2007 season to fix a labrum tear.

"“It’s something I haven’t had to deal with these last two years after having that surgery,” Ramirez said. “Hopefully it’s nothing bad and I can come back quick.”"

After starting off the year very unRamirez-like, the slugger was able to bounce back for a solid July, posting an OPS of .896 with 5 home runs and 21 RBI’s last month.  On the year Ramirez has hit at a clip of .243/.333/.379 with 10 homers, 45 RBI’s and 20 stolen bases.

Without Ramirez the Marlins are likely to use Greg Dobbs at third base, allowing Emilio Bonifacio to move from third to shortstop.
