Dan Uggla Pushes Streak to 29 Games

A step slower and Dan Uggla would be starting fresh today.  Instead, the Braves second baseman extended his hit streak to 29 games last night.

Two nights in a row it came down to a close play, as Uggla waited for his last at bat Sunday to keep the streak alive.  Last night he collected his hit a little earlier, but it was still in dramatic fashion.

Uggla hit a slow bouncer off the end of his bat to Marlins’ short stop Emilio Bonifacio.  The play looked routine enough, but Uggla hustled down the line to narrowly beat the throw.

It turned out to be the streak saver, as it was Uggla’s only hit on the night.  The 31 year old went 1-3 against the Marlins, as he grounded out, flied out twice (one was a sac fly) and walked in his other plate appearances.

The tapper moved Uggla into a tie for second with Rowland Office on the all-time list of longest hitting streaks in Braves history.  He will look to keep it going this evening as the Braves take on the Fish in game 2 of the set.
