Kevin Millwood Signs with Rockies

It didn’t take long for Kevin Millwood to find his third team of the season, and this time he will finally get a chance to start a Major League game.

The Colorado Rockies signed the 36 year old and will have him debut Wednesday night when they take on the Reds.  On his way home after opting out of another minor league deal, Millwood got the news of the signing and instead made his way to Cincinnati.

“I opted out on Friday and just kind of hung out in Pawtucket for a couple of days and was actually leaving this morning to go home,” Millwood said. “I got a call from my agent on the way, and he said this deal got done. So I changed my route to go to LaGuardia Airport [to connect on a flight to Cincinnati], and here I am.”

Colorado will use Millwood to replace injured starter Juan Nicasio who took a line drive to the face this weekend that resulted in a fractured vertebrae.  Nicasio is out indefinitely and the Rockies are hoping Millwood can come in and provide the team innings.

It will be Millwood’s first appearance in the Majors this season after pitching for the Orioles in 2010.  For the O’s, Millwood was able to make 31 starts and log 190.2 innings but his ERA was north of 5.
