The Pirates have placed Derrek Lee on the 15 disabled list after discovering the first baseman was dealing with a fractured left wrist.

Lee sustained the injury when he was hit by a Carlos Marmol pitch during an August 3rd contest.  After sitting out for 4 games, Lee returned to action for the Pirates last Monday and Tuesday.  He was able to collect hits in each game, but the return was short-lived as Lee has been out since.

He tried to suit up Friday night for the Buccos, but after taking swings and experiencing continued discomfort, Lee underwent a CT scan that revealed the fracture.

"“I was getting nervous because it still feels like it did on Day 1,” Lee said. “I just couldn’t swing the bat, really. It wasn’t matching up with being a bruise at that point.”"

Lee, who came over from the Orioles in a late July trade, has only played in 5 games for the Pirates.  On the season, the 35 year old has posted a line of .247/.303/.420.  Doctor’s estimate Lee will miss 3 to 4 weeks.
