Travis Hafner to DL with Right Foot Strain

Travis Hafner is set to miss his second stretch of significant time as the Cleveland Indians placed their slugger on the disabled list yesterday.  Hafner is dealing with a strained right foot.

During Sunday’s game with the Tigers, Hafner twice fouled pitches off his right foot and continued to experience discomfort while on the base paths.

"“My foot got a little sore and swollen,” Hafner said. “Just running to second base there [in the sixth], it just kind of gave out on me.”"

This weekend marked the second time Hafner’s dealt with right foot issues this year, as the DH missed time in April after straining a tendon.  Hafner was also out for a month between May and June due to an abdominal strain.

Cleveland has yet to announce a time frame for Hafner’s return, as they are hoping to learn more today regarding the extent of the injury.

On the year, Hafner has hit at a clip of .281/.364/.448 with 11 home runs and 49 RBI’s in 82 games.

Cleveland has been bitten by the injury bug at the worst possible time.  Hafner joins fellow position players Grady Sizemore and Jason Kipnis on the Indians DL.

After last night’s loss to the Mariners, the Tribe have dropped 4 straight to move into a tie for second in the AL Central with the White Sox, 5.5 games behind the division leading Tigers.
