The Cleveland Indians activated Jason Kipnis from the 15 day disabled list today and placed the infielder in their starting lineup for tonight’s matchup against the Detroit Tigers.

Kipnis last played for the Indians August 12th.  After that contest he sat out several games with an oblique injury.  Then, while warming up for a game on the 18th of August, Kipnis strained his right hamstring.  Cleveland decided to send Kipnis to the DL to sort out both of his injury issues.

Kipnis told reporters earlier in the week that the last thing that he would have to do before returning for the Indians would be to prove that he could go all out and not feel any ill effects of the hamstring strain.  Cleveland must have liked what they saw this afternoon, as the club decided to bring Kipnis back and give him the start this evening.

Kipnis, who entered the year as one of the Indians top prospects, made his Major League debut for the Tribe on July 22.  After a slow start, Kipnis produced a line of .348/.412/.739 with 5 home runs, 3 doubles and 9 RBI’s in his 11 games played in August.

On the year, Kipnis has hit at a clip of .279/.347/.603.
