2012 MLB Schedule Announced

Yesterday Major League Baseball released their schedule for the upcoming 2012 season.

Many MLB fans will again experience Thursday openers, but first comes the unveiling of a new stadium.  The Florida Marlins will host the season’s first game of the year in the inaugural game of Marlins Ballpark.  Florida will be taking on the St. Louis Cardinals as Major League Baseball kicks off the year.

Thursday offers fans six more openers.  The matchups include the Philadelphia Phillies vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Toronto Blue Jays vs. the Cleveland Indians, the Boston Red Sox at the Detroit Tigers, the Atlanta Braves vs. the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. the San Diego Padres and the Washington Nationals at the Chicago Cubs.

The rest of the league joins the action Friday with some of the more intriguing series openers pitting the New York Yankees against the Tampa Bay Rays, the San Francisco Giants against the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Cardinals against the Milwaukee Brewers.

2012 will include several stadium anniversaries.  The Baltimore Orioles will celebrate Camden Yards 20th anniversary.  Fenway Park turns 100 in 2012, and the Red Sox will be commemorate the centennial on the 20th of April.  Last but not least, Dodgers Stadium will hit the big 5-0 on April 10th.

Interleague play in 2012 is also set to offer some interesting matchups as each division will take on their counterpart from the opposite league.
