MLB Playoffs: Diamondbacks Power Past Brewers

The Arizona Diamondbacks slugged their way past the Milwaukee Brewers last night.  With their 10-6 win in the desert, the Diamondbacks kept their season alive, sending the series back to Milwaukee where the clubs will face off in game five Friday night.

Game four provided plenty of offensive fireworks early.  After the Brewers took the lead, scoring a single run in the top of the 1st, the Diamondbacks came back with five of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Arizona loaded the bases against Brewers starter Randy Wolf on a walk and pair of singles, bringing Tuesday night’s hero Paul Goldschmidt to the dish.  While the rookie wasn’t able to deliver two nights in a row, teammate Ryan Roberts took Wolf deep for Arizona’s second grand slam in as many nights.

Chris Young followed Roberts with a home run of his own, increasing the Diamondback’s advantage to 5-1.  It was the first of two home runs for Young, who finished the night with three RBI’s.

Milwaukee was able to chip away at the Diamondbacks lead, scoring twice more off of Joe Saunders in the 2nd and 3rd.  But Arizona would soon put things out of reach, scoring another pair of runs against Wolf, driving the starter from the game after only three innings.  Saunders also only made it through three frames, as the starters combined to surrender 10 earned runs on 13 hits and five walks over their six innings of work.

The series will now head back to Milwaukee, where there will be a pitching rematch of game one Friday night.  Yovani Gallardo will try to duplicate his success in the opener while Ian Kennedy hopes to improve on his effort and carry the Diamondbacks to the NLCS.
