MLB Playoffs: Brewers Take Game 4 to Even Series with Cardinals

After his drubbing at the hands of the Diamondbacks in game four of the National League Division Series, Brewers fans may have felt a little wary watching Randy Wolf take the mound last night.  Any worries were proven unnecessary as Wolf silenced St. Louis’s bats, leading the Brewers to a game four victory.  With the win, Milwaukee pulls back to even with the Cardinals in the NLCS.

St. Louis went up early on a pair of solo home runs.  Matt Holliday and Allen Craig took Wolf deep in the 2nd and 3rd innings, propelling the Cardinals to 2-0 advantage.

This lead was quickly erased, as the Brewers scored twice in the 4th inning against Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse.  Milwaukee would move ahead in the 5th on Ryan Braun’s fifth RBI of the series, and went on to pad their lead in the 6th when Rickie Weeks came home to score on Ryan Theriot’s fielding error.

This was more than enough cushion for Wolf and the Brewers’ pen.  Wolf settled in nicely, allowing only two hits over his final four scoreless innings of work.  Francisco Rodriguez recorded his second hold of the series before John Axford closed things out in the 9th.

Braun and Prince Fielder continue to pace Milwaukee’s offense, as the duo combined to go 3-8 with an RBI and run scored.  Fielder and Braun have each maintained OPS’s north of 1.150 this postseason.

With the series now knotted at 2-2, game five of the NLCS is set for tonight in St. Louis.
