The LA Angels officially named Jerry Dipoto as their next general manager today.  Dipoto moves over from the Diamondbacks’ front office to take over the reins for the Halos.

Getting his start in the Majors as a player, Dipoto spent eight seasons in the bigs as a reliever.  Selected by the Indians in the third round of the 1989 amateur draft, Dipoto was with Cleveland for two years before being traded to the Mets and then Colorado.  Dipoto maintained a 4.05 ERA over his 390 appearances and 495 1/3 innings pitched.

After ending his ordinary professional career in 2000, Dipoto moved straight from the playing field to the front office.  Getting his start in Colorado, Dipoto also spent time with the Red Sox organization before joining the Diamondbacks.  This season, Dipoto was acting as Arizona’s senior vice president of scouting and player development.

The Angels interviewed several prospective general managers before deciding on Dipoto as their man to replace former GM Tony Reagins.
