Baltimore Orioles Introduce New Cartoon Bird Logo and Uniforms

The Baltimore Orioles are hoping a new look can help the historic franchise return to its winning roots.  OK, not really, but the Orioles did debut their new cartoon bird logo and 2012 team uniforms this morning.  It will be the first time since 1988 that the cartoon bird will be a part of the Orioles’ official uniform.

Baltimore’s 2012 uniforms will feature several changes, the largest being the re-introduction of the team’s well-known cartoon bird logo.  The bird that will now appear on Orioles’ caps during home and road games is a combination of two older cartoons.  Baltimore’s 2012 bird will merge the ones used by the franchise in 1970 and 1983.

The new bird will replace the more life-like rendition used by the club over the past two decades.  Along with the logo change, the Orioles will also don orange uniforms for the first time since Camden Yards opened in 1992.  The return of the orange uniforms is significant as 2012 represents the 20th anniversary of the stadium that helped revolutionize baseball confines.  To honor OPCY, the Orioles will wear these patches on the sleeve of each of their uniforms.

“Baltimore” will continue to be scripted on the Orioles’ away uniforms, but in 2012 the letters spelling the city will all be the same size.

These changes were the first major ones to the Orioles’ uniforms and logo since 2008.
