The Chicago Cubs have announced that they’ve reached a two-year agreement with free agent outfielder David DeJesusKen Rosenthol of Fox Sports is reporting that DeJesus will take over as the Cubs everyday right fielder in 2012.  DeJesus has a guaranteed $10 million coming his way according to Jon Heyman of SI.com.

While it is a two-year deal, the Cubs announced that DeJesus’s new contract also includes a club option for 2014.

2011 was DeJesus’s worst showing of his career.  The 31-year-old only mustered a .240 batting average and .376 slugging percentage which resulted in a career low .698 OPS.  DeJesus did spend half of his games playing in the not-so-hitter-friendly confines of the Coliseum.

Oakland acquire DeJesus lasts November.  Up until that point, DeJesus had only known one organization, the Kansas City Royals.

Making his major league debut in 2004, DeJesus developed into one of the Royals most consistent hitters.  During his time in Kansas City, DeJesus maintained an impressive OBP (.360) while playing all three outfield positions for the Royals.

DeJesus has never hit more than 13 home runs in a season, but he has been good for at least 20 two-baggers a year.

Because the A’s offered DeJesus arbitration last week, Oakland will receive a supplemental first round pick in the 2012 draft.
