Michael Cuddyer Rumors

With news of Josh Willingham’s pending agreement with the Minnesota Twins, the market for free agent outfielder Michael Cuddyer figures to heat up quickly.  As many as nine teams were tied to Cuddyer at some point this offseason, and many believe it won’t be much longer before the 32-year-old finds a new home.  Let’s take a look at all of the latest Michael Cuddyer rumors.

Currently, the Rockies appear to be the favorites to sign Cuddyer.  Reports have claimed that the Rockies are pushing hard to acquire an outfielder this winter, and their top two targets are Cuddyer and Carlos Beltran.

When free agency started, it was reported that Cuddyer was seeking a three-year deal in the $36 million range.  While the Twins were rumored to only be willing to go as high as $25 million over three years, the Rockies are said to currently have a greater offer on the table for Cuddyer that could reach $30 million.

Minnesota was viewed as the Rockies top competition in the Cuddyer sweepstakes, but now that they’ve signed Willingham they figure to be out of the running.  The Twins expressed interest in Cuddyer, Willingham and Jason Kubel this offseason but said that they would only be able to sign one of the three.

After the announcement of Willingham’s agreement with the Twins last night, it looked like the road was clear for Colorado to get their man.  However, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Seattle Mariners are currently talking with Cuddyer as well.

Wherever he ends up, it appears that Cuddyer’s decision should be coming soon.
