Yoenis Cespedes Rumors: Cespedes to Visit Marlins

Yesterday we found out that Yoennis Cespedes is likely to hit US soil and begin meeting face-to-face with potential suitors in the next seven to 10 days. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports is reporting that, as expected, one of those sit-downs will be with the Miami Marlins. Rosenthal tweeted that Cespedes will likely meet with the Marlins “within the next week”, while the Chicago Cubs remain “deeply involved” with the free agent. Beyond the Marlins and the Cubs, the Yankees, Phillies, Rangers, Blue Jays, White Sox, Orioles, Tigers, Indians and Nationals have all been tied to Cespedes this offseason.
The Marlins have been considered one of the favorites to land Cespedes since it was discovered he was aiming to hit the open market. Miami is close to Cespedes’s native Cuba and offers the slugger a strong Cuban community.
For their part, the Marlins have also been extremely open regarding their interest in Cespedes. Team president David Samson has said that the Marlins are prepared to be “aggressive right to the point of stupidity” when it comes to signing Cespedes. Samson did note that Miami has “to be sane”, but also said that Cespedes is a “perfect fit” for the Marlins and that a signing “makes perfect sense”.
