The Texas Rangers and shortstop Elvis Andrus have reportedly reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension.  Official terms of the deal have yet to be announced, though FOX Sports is reporting that Andrus will make roughly $14-15 million over the three years.

Andrus has emerged as one of the game’s best defensive shortstops.  Beyond his prowess on the field, Andrus has also been able to hold his own at the plate.  The 23-year-old turned in an impressive performance in 2011, hitting at a clip of .279/.347/.361 with 35 extra base hits, 96 runs scored and 37 stolen bases.

Over his three seasons with the Rangers, Andrus has maintained a line of .271/.340/.343.  The slick-fielding shortstop has already made an All-Star appearance and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2009.  On top of his impressive stats, Andrus has proven durable over his short career, playing in at least 145 games in each of his three seasons.

Andrus’s new deal buys out his three remaining years of arbitration eligibility.  The youngster is set to become a free agent following the 2014 season.
