MLB Free Agents: Los Angeles Angels Sign Jason Isringhausen

According to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com, the Los Angeles Angels have reached an agreement with free agent reliever Jason Isringhausen.  The 39-year-old right-hander received a minor league deal which he can opt out of if he does not break camp with the Angels.

After missing most of the 2010 season, Isringhausen returned to the team that drafted him.  The New York Mets signed the veteran last February and he developed into an integral part of their bullpen.

While not spectacular, Isringhausen’s numbers weren’t all that bad.  The right-hander maintained an ERA and WHIP of 4.05 and 1.286 with a 8.5 SO/9 and 4.6 BB/9 over his 53 appearances and 46 2/3 innings pitched last season.  Isringhausen compiled seven saves for the Mets which gave him 300 for his career.

At this point, it’s major league or bust for Isringhausen, as the veteran has no interest in starting the season in the minors.  It won’t be easy to make the cub, but Isringhausen did show he can still be a serviceable reliever last season.

Over his 15 seasons in the bigs, Isringhausen has a career ERA and WHIP of 3.62 and 1.325.
