Roy Oswalt Rumors: Red Sox Keeping Tabs on Oswalt

The Boston Globe’s Nick Carfado was fielding questions from readers yesterday when veteran free agent Roy Oswalt’s name came up.  When asked if the Red Sox will make a push for Oswalt this spring, Carfado responded that he believes Boston has “their radar up on” the right-hander.  According to Carfado, if Oswalt wants to pitch for the Red Sox, “they will oblige”.

This has generally been considered the case for much of the offseason.  It’s appeared that the main issue standing between Oswalt and Fenway Park hasn’t been the money or the Red Sox desire to bring acquire the veteran starter.  Instead, it had been reported that Oswalt wanted to pitch closer to his Mississippi home.

For this reason, for the duration of the offseason, the favorites to ink Oswalt were the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers.  This changed when Oswalt came out last week and said that he is now willing to play anywhere.

While Boston certainly qualifies as ‘anywhere’, the question remains when exactly Oswalt will sign with his next club.  It’s been speculated that the 34-year-old is satisfied holding off on a decision until the All-Star break.  At this time, Oswalt’s children will be on summer vacation and he will be able to take his family with him wherever he elects to sign.
