New York Mets Notes: David Wright out of lineup

This season, the best hitter in baseball has been David Wright of the New York Mets, and he is currently hitting over .400 in what is a 2008 Chipper Jones type season for him. Wright, however, has been battling an illness and will get a day off against the Toronto Blue Jays.

It’s a scheduled day off for the third baseman either way, but the illness means that the Mets could play Justin Turner at third tomorrow as well. Turner, by the way, will be hitting in the sixth spot. In their last meeting, the Blue Jays clouted Jonathan Niese with two home run games from Rajai Davis and J.P Arencibia.

Second baseman Jordany Valdespin was optioned to AAA Buffalo, and Valdespin has been pushed up and down the Mets organization more than he would like this season. The infielder has played in just 15 games for the Mets this season, but his .100 batting average this year shows that there is a reason for the constant turnover.

In a corresponding move, the Mets called up right-handed reliever Jeremy Hefner from Buffalo. Hefner had a great MLB debut in late April and shut down the San Francisco Giants through three scoreless innings. However, he was demoted right after that performance after getting a taste of Major League life. It is great to see Hefner called up, and he should make a positive impact for the Mets as a middle reliever.
