According to Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star, the Royals have placed

Felipe Paulino on the 15-day disabled list. They also recalled RHP Nate Adcock from Triple-A to fill the roster spot.

Paulino left Wednesday’s game with an apparent leg injury. It has been since diagnosed as a strained groin. Based on numerous reports that Paulino considered pitching through the injury, it would seem he will return as soon as possible and may not need any rehab starts.

Paulino is 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA in seven starts for the Royals. He’s pitched 37 innings and struck out 39 while only walking 15. He has been one of the better Royals performers this year. Nate Adcock will replace him in the rotation by the look of things.

Adcock has pitched in six games for the Royals this season, but he has spent the majority of his time with the Triple-A club, the Omaha Stormchasers. With the Royals he was 0-3 with a 3.74 ERA. With the Stormchasers he was 3-2 with a 1.99 ERA.

The Royals continue their series with the Pirates tonight at 7:15 PM ET. Adcock is expected to join the team in Pittsburgh.
