Texas Rangers Rumors and Notes

The first place Texas Rangers have gone from Baseball’s best to just good. And for now, that’s been enough. The

Rangers hold a three game lead over the Angels, but Los Angeles seems to have found its groove. Here are your Rangers notes:

  • Rangers owner Nolan Ryan wants uniform rules in both leagues to avoid injuries like we saw to Alexi Ogando yesterday. In a radio interview with Galloway and Company of ESPN Dallas, Ryan said having uniform rules could eliminate injuries to players not used to performing certain tasks – like running the base paths.
  • Adam Bodecker of NBCDFW.com thinks the Rangers may look back on May and wonder what-if. The Rangers played .500 ball in May while the Angels surged forward. Now, with just a three game lead, Bodecker thinks the Rangers can look back at one month in particular if they don’t win the West.
  • Jeff Mosier of Dallas Morning News

reports a noticeable impact to the area economy thanks to the Texas Rangers. Most teams tout economic growth when trying to get a new ballpark built, but the Rangers can tout results. With their recent run of success, Mosier says:”Though it’s difficult to accurately quantify, baseball is giving some businesses and Arlington’s economy a noticeable boost. And the impact appears to be even greater than it was during last year’s regular season — a franchise high point sandwiched between back-to-back World Series appearances.”

The back-to-back World Series appearances and success this year have certainly been the main reason for the bump.

  • Joey Matschulat of Baseball Time in Arlington predicts the Rangers’ first round pick, Joey Gallo, will sign soon. Despite belief that Gallo wants around $2.5 million which would be beyond the slot price, Matschulat says, ” it appears that Gallo is about to be signed.”
