Javy Guerra resumes pitching activities

Los Angeles Dodgers high leverage reliever Javy Guerra has resumed pitching activities and is currently throwing the ball at a distance of 90 feet. Guerra will travel with the team on the 25th of June to San Francisco, but he will not be traveling with the team this week as the Dodgers trek to Oakland.

Javy Guerra, per MLB.com, is “building up strength” and will take part in a few rehab games before returning. His likely return time will be in July and early July at that if there are no setbacks for him.

He has been suffering from right knee inflammation and has been on the DL since the third of this month. This recent step is a big one for Guerra, but he is still a few weeks away from returning to the Dodgers bullpen and continuing to be a key piece for them.

In 24 innings this season, Javy Guerra has been worth 0.5 WAR with a 3.38 ERA. That ERA total is quite impressive when you look at his .351 BABIP against. He has been lucky by not allowing a home run this season, and Guerra should finish the season with an ERA of around 3.30. He strikes out about 7.5 batters per nine, and this total should stay about the same. His 3.75 BB/9 should come down to something around 3.5 by the end of the year.

Guerra is coming off of a 0.4 WAR season in 46.2 innings in 2011, and it was a solid year for him despite being a lucky man. He has pitched better this season and is a good, high leverage reliever to have. The Dodgers will hope he comes back in early July as opposed to mid-July given his importance in the ‘pen.
