right before the deadline came and went, the Pirates were able to acquire former All-Star Gaby Sanchez and Kyle Kaminska from the Marlins for Gorkys Hernandez and an competitive balance lottery draft pick (this is the only draft pick teams can trade).

Sanchez was an All-Star last year, but was currently assigned to Triple-A when the deal was announced.  He hit .202/.250/.306 with the Marlins in 55 games this year.  He was hitting .302/.431/.491 in 34 games at Triple-A, though.  In his career Sanchez has been a .260 hitter.

Kyle Kaminska was drafted in the 25th round of the 2007 draft.  He’s played now in six minor league seasons and has put up an ERA of 4.34.  His best year came last year when he had an ERA of 2.58 between High-A ball and Double-A.

Gorkys Hernandez made his Major League debut with the Pirates this year.  In 24 at-bats, he collected just two hits.  The 24-year old outfielder played seven years in the minors and combined to hit .281/.343/.377.
