The Marlins actually have something to cheer about. Henderson Alvarez goes out on the last day of the season and throws a no-hitter! This is the 5th no-hitter in Marlins history as the last one came back in 2006 by Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez was in the opposing dugout this afternoon at Marlins Park. The right-hander pitched nine, no-hit innings as the Marlins walk-off in the bottom of the ninth on a Wild Pitch by Luke Putkonen. What a way to end the season for the Marlins and a terrible ending to the regular season for the Detroit Tigers as they head into the post season.

Alvarez threw 99 pitches, struck out four, and walked one in his magnificent start. Alvarez becomes the third pitcher in 2013 to throw a no-hitter after Homer Bailey of the Reds and Tim Lincecum of the Giants threw no-hitters back in July.

This is a great moment for the Marlins franchise days after firing their President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. This also gives the Marlins momentum going into 2014 with a very young team. This also gives the Marlins front office a reason to keep Alvarez this off season and give him the opportunity next spring to earn his spot on the roster.
