The Pirates were down 1-0 to the Cardinals in the series, when they sent out their rookie Gerrit Cole and he produced an absolute gem. The rookie pitched 6 innings, giving up 2 hits, and 1 run on a Yadier Molina home run. His counter part Lance Lynn was feeling it as he didn’t make it out of the fourth and gave up five earned. The Pirates won easily 7-1 to even the series.

The Pirates head home to try to steal home field advantage away from the Cardinals.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are going to throw Francisco Liriano who is coming off of a win in the Wild Card Game against Cincinnati. Liriano has been pretty much unbeatable at home going 8-1, 1.47 ERA. The Pirates have a lot of faith in him at home and he will be looking to give the Pirates the lead in the series. On the other end Mike Matheny has a rookie on the mound, Joe Kelly. Kelly, who started 15 games this season, has been better on the road than at home. His road numbers are 5-1, 2.07 ERA.
