Boston needs two games to get one win to claim AL crown.

Sure, the Detroit Tigers have their backs to the wall. Sure, their offense has sputtered at times. Sure, Prince Fielder is on the receiving end of some grief. Miguel Cabrera‘s getting a little as well.

Yesterday, a Boston radio station was “chatting” about Cabrera (.278/.350/.444, HR, 4 RBI) and Fielder (.211/.286/.263, 0 HR, 0 RBI) and how they have performed in this series.

Well, mostly Fielder. Cabrera has added some offensive, just not hitting the numbers he has during the regular season. Yes, he’s banged up, but there will be those that won’t be so forgiving of that as you can see and hear.

This all being said, a win tonight and the Tigers will force a Game 7.

Starting Pitchers

Detroit – Max Scherzer (2013 postseason: 3 G, 16 IP, 2-0, 2.25 ERA, 0.875 WHIP, 6 BB, 26 SO)
Scherzer will try to keep Detroit’s playoffs alive. He’s been practically unhittable during the postseason as opposing hitters have posted a .148 BAA in his three games.

But recall the outcome from Game 2. Scherzer was fantastic (again), but the Tigers blew a four run lead due to the David Ortiz‘s grand slam off Joaquin Benoit.

Boston – Clay Buchholz (2013 postseason: 2 G, 11.2 IP, 0-0, 6.17 ERA, 1.542 WHIP, 3 BB, 11 SO)
A close out gig for Buchholz and

Buchholz was quite the opposite of Scherzer in Game 2. The Tigers plated all of their five runs off him, including 6th inning home runs served to Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila.

Tigers skipper Jim Leyland stick with Hunter atop the lineup and Jackson in the 8-hole. Avila is also now hobbled due to the home plate collision with David Ross during Game 5, but in the starting lineup.

Bogaerts once again makes the start at third for John Farrell.
