In the preview yesterday, mention was made of 2013-2014 being a season without a rained out game. It was an invitation to fate. A sincere apology is offered to all fans who felt jinxed when the showers came to Brisbane.

To chase away the blues that rain can bring, there is a brand new episode of “Strike Zone” hosted by Chris Coleman of ABC Radio.

ABL Scoreboard: January 23

It would be simple enough to say Trent D’Antonio stole home in the bottom of the 8th with what proved to be the winning run. It’s nice and tidy. It invokes images of Jackie Robinson. Only hitch is that it wasn’t nice and tidy. It was messy enough to file a formal protest. Barring any last minute reversal, the result was a 4-3 victory for the Sydney Blue Sox at home against the Melbourne Aces.

The Perth Heat looked to be cruising along with the windows rolled down and the stereo cranked, but a comfortable 4-1 lead over the Adelaide Bite turned into a 9th inning nail biter at Barbagallo Ballpark. While the Bite chewed most of the margin in one sitting, they still needed another plateful to tie it up. Adelaide left the table feeling hungry as the Heat held on for a 4-3 victory.

Mother Nature easily defeated both the Brisbane Bandits and Canberra Cavalry at Holloway Field. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday.

ABL Action: January 24

In the end, it might end up another night of relative silence at Holloway Field except for the gentle patter of rain on the grandstand roof. If by some miracle the ballgame is played, the Brisbane Bandits will be hosting the Canberra Cavalry at 12:30 a.m. PST or 3:30 a.m. EST.

After all the rancor and hullabaloo last night, it is hard to imagine that this game will be anything but a fierce battle. With the Sydney Blue Sox and Melbourne Aces battling for a spot in the postseason, it promises to be a dandy. Action starts at 12:30 a.m. PST or 3:30 a.m. EST.

The Perth Heat look to keep themselves sharp in front of the hometown crowd at Barbagallo Ballpark. The Adelaide Bite need to grab as many wins as possible with three regular season games remaining. Action starts at 3:20 a.m. PST or 6:20 a.m. EST.
