We know there are Yankee fans who believe Derek Jeter can walk on water, and goodness knows there are people in the media convinced he is some kind of divine figure. But other baseball players?

Yeah, other players respect him, but they wouldn’t really put him up there next to Jesus would they?

Well, yes. At least one of Jeter’s colleagues is ready to go with that comparison. Albert Pujols spoke about the retiring Yankee superstar, and he said something kind of wacky.

“On and off field, he’s the way you want your kids to grow up,” Pujols told Mike DiGiovanna. “Only Jesus is perfect, but he’s pretty close to that guy.”

Evidently Pujols does not read tabloids.

Not that sleeping with tons of supermodels makes you a bad guy. You can be sexually promiscuous and still qualify as a fine human being. I just don’t think you belong in the same conversation with Jesus.

I think the minimum you have to do in order to be ranked up near Jesus territory is keep it in your pants. Otherwise the whole Jesus standard becomes kind of meaningless.

Not to turn this into a rant about morality. I personally don’t care what Derek Jeter does with his free time. It’s all fine and good.

I just don’t get comparing anyone to Jesus, ever. Unless you’re being incredibly sarcastic. And maybe Albert was being incredibly sarcastic.

Or, maybe Albert just doesn’t look at banging models willy-nilly as a deal breaker in the whole Jesus comparison game.
