Former Cy Young winner Johan Santana is trying to work his way back to the major leagues after multiple arm surgeries. What happened Tuesday isn’t going to help the cause.

Santana worked out for major league scouts on Tuesday and according to multiple reports, it wasn’t pretty. George A. King III of the New York Post reported that Santana barely cracked 80 with his fastball, his fastest pitch topping out at 81.

But his changeup did look good, King reports.

According to King, the Yankees were one of seven teams watching Santana work out at a high school in Fort Myers, Florida. The Twins reportedly have also shown interest in the left hander.

So basically, at least right now, Tracy McGrady has a better fastball than Johan Santana. Command-wise, I’m not sure where McGrady is. But he can bring the hot cheese hotter than Santana.

Don’t think we’ll be seeing Johan Santana in the bigs any time soon. Just a hunch.
