The Clippers were in big trouble Wednesday night on the road against the Phoenix Suns, until Tommy Lasorda swooped in and saved them.

Fan and Chris Paul bestie Lasorda felt the listless Clippers just needed a little pep talk to get them going. So during a time out early in the third, he poked his head into the team huddle and started motivating.

“I just kind of said something to them,” Lasorda told Dodger Insider after the game. “I told them I’m proud of them. I said, ‘The second half belongs to us!’ I talked to (Blake) Griffin, I told him he’s a star and he hasn’t scratched the surface yet. People pay a lot of money to see you play, so you better come out and play!”

The pep talk apparently worked. The Clippers went on to torch the Suns 37-18 in the third quarter. They won the game 104-96.

Had it not been for Lasorda’s inspiring words, the Clippers might have suffered a frustrating road loss.

Tommy Lasorda, still a legend.
