Fans love Bryce Harper, and goodness knows the media treat him like he’s some kind of baseball god (or at least a demigod).

And then there are Harper’s fellow players, who are not quite so convinced.

In a recent anonymous poll of 143 MLB players, Harper was named the most overrated in the game. The Nationals outfielder finished with 24% of the vote, ahead of Yasiel Puig who finished with 21%.

Alex Rodriguez was third at 14%.

Interesting that the three most “overrated” players in the game according to other players are all guys who get tons of run in the media. Maybe “overexposed” would be a better word to describe them.

And then there’s the guy on the opposite side of the respect scale, Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels.

In the same poll, Trout was named the best player in the game, finishing with a whopping 56% of the vote. That is a landslide victory for Trout.

Players were also asked to name which team they think will win the World Series in 2014. The Cardinals won that vote, beating out the Tigers, Dodgers and Red Sox.

So if you want to know who has the respect of people inside MLB…it’s Mike Trout and the Cardinals. Bryce Harper and Yasiel Puig…not so much.
