There would be no repeats of last year’s fracas between the Braves and Brewers.
Last year, Carlos Gomez touched off a brawl by home run trotting in a fashion the Braves players deemed disrespectful.
Never say that Carlos Gomez doesn’t learn from his mistakes.
Tuesday night, Gomez homered off the Braves’ Alex Wood. And did he saunter? Did he jog? Did he take time to savor his accomplishment?
No. He sprinted around the bases like his hair was on fire and there was a bucket of water waiting for him at home plate.
Of course if you want to look at it a certain way, it was actually snarkier for Gomez to run around the bases the way he did rather than trot at a normal trot.
The Braves didn’t take it that way, but they definitely could have taken it that way.
Atlanta, guided by the better angels of their natures, decided to let Gomez’s sarcastic home run sprint slide.
It’s early in the season yet. Plenty of time for trumped-up kerfuffles later.
