It’s not what you think. Tampa Bay Rays Mr. Do-Everything and new daddy Sean Rodriguez had this tweet in regards to the Commissioner’s Trophy presentation at Fenway Park.

And how did the club’s Twitter-master respond?

And as we all know the way Twitter “works”, there was snark from the Boston folk such as references to the number of Rays fans, a couple of responses stating the Rays suck (that’s highly original), and that Boston is the trophy’s “rightful place”.

Rightful place? In checking the franchise pages on Baseball Reference, three franchises have more World Series wins than Boston: New York Yankees (27), St. Louis Cardinals (11), and Oakland (4)/Philadelphia (5) A’s.

Even if the Rays don’t claim the trophy for 2014, odds are the Commissioner’s Trophy won’t be at this locale for Opening Day 2015. Last team to win back-to-back actually pulled off a three-peat: The 1998, 1999 and 2000 New York Yankees.
