Danny Wild from MiLB.com informs us that the season already has a player hit for the cycle. The player is Trevor Story, a shortstop in the Colorado Rockies organization at High-A Modesto in the California League. (Their nickname is the Nuts, by the way.) According to MLB Pipeline, Story is the Rockies’ #10 prospect.

As Story came to the plate during the Nuts 7th inning, all he needed was that elusive triple. Here’s Story with his side of the events from his 7th inning AB (via Wild’s piece):

"“Right when I hit it, I heard all the guys in the dugout yelling, ‘Go for it! Go for it!'” he said. “So I went for it.”"

That’s because when Story hit the ball, it sailed over the center fielder’s head. He had no choice but to try for that triple. Plus, you can’t let down your teammates, can you?

For the game, Story was 5-for-6 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. He was the leadoff batter for the Nuts. Here’s how Story’s PAs were for the evening.

1st inning: HR
2nd inning: single
3rd inning: bunt single
4th inning: double
7th inning: triple
9th inning: strikeout

Sad thing is despite Story’s night, the Nuts dropped a 14-12 decision to the Visalia Rawhide, the Cal League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
