Ryan Dempster is a Wrigley Field bleacher bum

Ryan Dempster, championship ring in hand from his time with the Red Sox, has taken a year off from baseball to rest the arm and recharge the batteries.

And what’s Ryan doing with all his spare time? Working on a novel? Learning to sail a boat? Cultivating an interest in geology?

No. He’s sitting in the bleachers at Wrigley Field. Just like one of the bleacher bums who used to come out and cheer him during his time as a fan favorite with the Cubs.

Noted baseball blogger Al Yellon posted a shot of Dempster hanging out at the old ballpark this fine Thursday afternoon.

Dempster wouldn’t be itching to cut short his sabbatical and make a comeback with the Cubs would he?

I’m not sure the Cubs can use him right now. That rotation of Jeff Samardzija, Edwin Jackson, Travis Wood, Jason Hammels and Carlos Villanueva is actually looking fairly decent right now.

Well okay, maybe not Jackson.
