Justin Verlander has accomplished a lot of stuff in his career as a major leaguer, but as of Saturday, there was one thing the former Cy Young winner still hadn’t done.

He hadn’t gotten a major league hit. He was 0-26 going into Saturday’s game against San Diego.

But Verlander took care of that, collecting his first major league base hit, a second inning single off the Padres’ Ian Kennedy.

Later in the game, Verlander would notch his second major league hit. So basically he’s Rogers Hornsby now.

How excited was Verlander about collecting his first two major league safeties?

He couldn’t wait to get on Twitter and change his avatar.

Swinging Justin Verlander. Let’s hope he doesn’t lose focus on his pitching. Cause pitching, that’s still his bread and butter.

As a pitcher, he’s worthy of Kate Upton. As a hitter? Maybe he could score a low-level American Idol runner-up. Maybe.
