With the team doing so poorly and having traded away a lot of their young talent in the last couple seasons such as outfielders Justin Upton and Adam Eaton as well as pitchers Tyler Skaggs and Trevor Bauer. They are going to need to look to fill those holes with young, talented players. The team that has been assembled under the current management team lead by general manager Kevin Towers, just hasn’t quite cut it. They picked the wrong time to try to overhaul the team into a win now group. Now, they will need to be patient and develop new talent in order to rebuild. The Diamondbacks need help immediately in three core areas.

1. Starting pitching has not been the Diamondbacks strong suit. Brandon McCarthy hasn’t put up the All-Star numbers that he put up in Oakland since being traded to Arizona. Fellow right-hander Trevor Cahill was designated for assignment in early June and is now starting for the Triple-A Reno Aces. With Corbin unable to return until next season the Diamondbacks need to find a way to trade for some young talent. ‘

2. Their second biggest need is help in the outfield. Their current core outfielders, including Gerardo Parra, Cody Ross, David Peralta and Ender Inciarte, are just not getting the job done. Parra is losing speed and veteran Cody Ross is hitting just .216.

3. Arizona could also use help at catcher. Miguel Montero started the season have trouble throwing out base runners, yet has improved as the season has progressed. A former All-Star with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 2014, Montero is improving and will likely stay but his 2013 numbers were mediocre and the Diamondbacks need a solid back up catcher. They may or may not have one in Tuffy Gosewisch who has allowed eight stolen bases in just 12 games this season. It’s an area in which they could look to improve.

With so many players not playing to their potential and the team being plagued by injuries it appears that the Diamondbacks are going to be willing put almost anyone on the chopping, anyone except their most coveted player, first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. It has been confirmed by the team that Goldschmidt won’t be moved.
